Mrs. Ellen Bourne, 92, who had 126 Direct descendants, died February 9, 1962, at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac where she entered late Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Bourne, the former Ellen Jane Battenfield, was born in Napoleon, Ohio, September 28, 1869. She moved to the Black Hills in the Dakotas where she was married to the late Frederick Bourne in 1888. The couple moved to the Fife Lake area in 1900, taking 54 days to come from Dakota by covered wagon. They settled in Springfield Township in Kalkaska County where they had farmed until his death 12 years ago.

She has spent her time with her children in Detroit and this area since that time. She had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Beulah) Merrit in Manton.

She is survived by Mrs. Merritt and four sons, Charles and Archie of Fife Lake; Raymond of Lewiston; and Cecil of Detroit; two brothers John Battenfield of Fife Lake, and Abner Battenfield of Birch Run; a sister, Mrs. Been Wheeler of Clio, 33 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

The services will be held for Mrs. Bourne at the Springfield Township Church of Christ of which she was a member, Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Fry officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
