Athel “Gene” Williams, 92, of Gaylord and Kalkaska passed away on Sat, December 5, 2015.
Athel was born in Fife Lake on Apr 17, 1923, to Floyd and Elsie (Stamphler) Williams. On Jul 27, 1946, he married the love of his life, Helen Davis.
Athel proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a commander and member of the local VFW Post No. 1518.
Athel was never afraid to try anything new and he attempted everything with a “can-do spirit!” He was a successful businessman as well as salesman. He sold insurance and real estate where he owned Williams Insurance Agency and Williams Real Estate. He was also president of Water Wonderland Realtors. He was involved in the gas and oil industry in his later years in life.
Athel was very proud to be a private pilot and enjoyed his many travels. Of all the accomplishments on his list nothing compares to the loving man he was to his family and the pride he had for his family.
Athel is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen; and daughter, Janis McFarland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elery, Oris and Arden Williams; and sister, Netti Sanford.
Funeral services will be held on Wed, December 9, 2015, at 11am from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord with Pastor E.J. Wolf officiating. Visitation will take place on Wed at the funeral home beginning at 10am until the time of service.
