Joseph Bruce, 81, lifelong resident of Speaker Township, died Mon afternoon in Marlette Community Hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Bruce was born in Speaker Township, Sanilac County, Jun 25, 1884, son of the late Donald and Anna Bruce.

Mar 6, 1912, he was married to Miss Mary Grace Mahaffy at the home of her parents in Flynn Township.

They settled on their farm in Speaker Township where they lived ever since.

Mrs. Bruce preceded him in death on September 3, 1962.

They attended Omard Methodist Church.

He was Past Master and member of Elk Lodge No. 353 F. & A.M. for 60 years; Past High Priest and member of Chapter No. 145 RAM for 58 years; and Past Patron and life member of Elk Chapter No. 273.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Bruce of Lansing, and Marvin Bruce of Brown City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Cork of Peck, and Mrs. Laura Martin of Algonac.

Masonic rites were held Wed evening under the auspices of Elk Lodge No. 353 F. & A.M., Peck.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thu) at 2pm in Carman Funeral Home, Brown City, with the Rev. John Roach, pastor of Brown City and Omard Methodist churches, officiating.

Burial will be in Marlette Cemetery.
