Rheo L. Gilmore, 77, of Fife Lake, died Wednesday at his home.
He had worked for 10 years on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a school bus driver and custodian at the Fife Lake Community Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1976.
A lifelong Fife Lake resident, he served on the Fife Lake Village Council. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a former member of the Fife Lake Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
Born on Oct. 1, 1911, in Fife Lake, he was the son of Earl and Laura (Blake) Gilmore. On June 8, 1935, in Fife Lake, he married the former Mary Hejnal, who died in 1984.
Surviving are four daughters, Geraldine Gilmore and Claudina Cowherd, both of Fife Lake, Carol Miller of Wetmore and Beverly Evans of Central Lake; two sons Ronald Gilmore of Grand Ledge and Gary Gilmore of Fife Lake; two sisters, Mildred Nelson of Saginaw and Lorraine Helm of Flint; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fife Lake United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Wales will officiate. Burial will be in Springfield Township Cemetery, Fife Lake.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation continues from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Fife Lake United Methodist Church.
