Mary Ann Dawson Battenfield was born in Napoleon, Ohio, September 11, 1841, and died at her home in Springfield Township, Kalkaska County, Tuesday, May 22, 1906. She was united in marriage to Jacob Battenfield January 3, 1861, in Napoleon. To this union ten children were born. She united with the Church of Christ in Freedom Township, Henry County, Ohio, in 1870, and has lived a sincere Christian life, and though a sufferer of much pain, her sweet patience touched all hearts. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Jacob Battenfield, and seven children. Mrs. Elizabeth Ross of Lead City, South Dakota; Mrs. Fannie VanPelt; Mrs. Ella Bourne; Mrs. Susan Timmins; Mrs. Gertrude Wheeler; Abner and John Battenfield; 17 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Shelt and Mrs. Margaret VanPelt of Napoleon, Ohio, and Mrs. Ellen Howell of Peck, Kansas, and one brother, Edward Henry Dawson of Toledo, Ohio. She has lived in Kalkaska County since 1893.
