Funeral services will be held Wed morning for Mrs. George Stephens, 73, who died Sat morning in Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, MD.

She had been a hospital patient since Dec 5.

Mrs. Stephens, a former Manistique resident, had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Richard Makinen, of Rockville, MD, since the death of her husband in 1970. Mr. Stephens was superintendent of the Manistique and Lake Superior Railroad for 46 years before his death.

Friends may call at the Messeir-Broullire Funeral Home beginning at 4 o’clock Tue afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Wed morning at 11 o’clock from the funeral home, with burial in the Fairview Cemetery.

The former Gertrude Seaman Doran was born Dec 17, 1897, on Drummond Island. She attended the First United Methodist Church, was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 83, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4420, and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She was married to George Stephens on Feb 26, 1931 in Manistique. He died Apr 22, 1970.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Francis (Virginia) Shaffer, Detroit; Mrs. Richard (Lois) Makinen, Rockville, MD; Mrs. Reuben (Doris) Johnson, Livonia and Mrs. William (Merle) Bauman, Manistique; one brother, Dale Seaman, Everett, WA; one sister, Mrs. Frank Fae Taylor, Farmington, MI; 14 grandchidlren and five great grandchildren.
