John A. Haskin, 78, of Fife Lake, passed away early this morning at the Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility, Traverse City, after a long illness. The son of William H. and Alzora Haskin, he was born Aug. 31, 1895 in Springfield Twp, Kalkaska County. He was married to Pearl Campbell, Nov. 6, 1964. He was a former truck driver for Michigan Motor Freight, retiring in 1960 and moving back to Fife Lake. A member of the Fifty Plus Club of Fife Lake, he was also a member of the Fife Lake IOOF lodge. Surviving him, besides his widow, Pearl, are one son, Wilbur Haskin of Lincoln Park; one daughter, Mrs. John (Christena) Kneip of Fife Lake; two stepdaughters, Mrs. William (Katherine) Flaherty of West Lebanon, N.H., and Mrs. George (Betty) Branson of Medford, Mass; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rena) Long of Ocqueoc, Mrs. Cecil (Zana) Bourne of Detroit, Mrs. Claire (Olive) Aldrich of Traverse City, and Mrs. Russell (Rose) Ash of Fife Lake; three brothers, Edward of Warren, Fred of Lansing, and Royal of Lake City; and many other relatives and friends. The Rev. Oscar Coolbaugh will officiate at funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, from the Smith Funeral Home, Kingsley. Interment will be in the Clark Cemetery, Springfield Twp., Kalkaska County. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society and envelopes may be picked up at the funeral home.
