Howard “Howdy” Giles Sewell, age 95, of Lansing, MI passed away on Sun, Sep 3, 2023.
Howard was born on Nov 19, 1927 in Edmore, MI, the son of Albert and Frances (Giles) Sewell. He attended Edmore High School and Lansing Eastern High School. Howard went on to complete a Carpentry Apprentice Program to become a carpenter. He worked as a carpenter for 46 years for Granger before retiring. Before becoming a carpenter, Howard worked on the family farm in Edmore and also set the pins at the local bowling alley.
Howard married his true love, Wilma Jean Scott on Aug 28, 1950 at Central United Methodist Church in Lansing. Together, they built a life that was founded on faith, family, and love. Howard had a strong devotion to his faith and family. He celebrated his faith at Central United Methodist Church. To his children, Howard instilled to be hard workers, to have faith, and never give up.
In his freetime, Howard was a part of the 39’ers Senior Bowling Program and the Fraternal Oddfellow Lodge.
Howard lived a long productive life of 95 years. He enjoyed most of his life in Lansing, but also had fond memories of his time on the family farm. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and camping. His time spent with family was most important to him. Howard shared his carpentry skills, teachings, and workings to help others. He was a wonderful example of a Christian, a family man, hard worker, and devoted husband.
Now with God, his lovely bride, and family members who have gone before him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in Peace.
A visitation for Howard will be held 5 to 8 pm Sep 14, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing 48912. A funeral service will take place 11 am Sep 15, 2023 at the funeral home, with visitation an hour prior. A committal service will follow the funeral at Deepdale Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Howard’s honor may be made to City Rescue Mission or Hannah’s House Inc.
Howard is survived by his children, Margarete Jean Sewell, Stephen Giles Sewell, Timothy Lee (Peggy) Sewell, Annette Marie (Edwin) Pereault; grandchildren, Lindsey (Derek) Pung, Marcelle Pereault, Jacob Sewell, Renee (Timothy) Larson, Catrina Litzenburg; great grandchildren, Michael Pung, Gweneth Freeman, Alayna Harden, Ryleigh Sewell, Jaxson Sewell, Lincoln Pung, Cameron Larsen, and Evander Larsen.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Wilma Sewell; his parents, Albert and Frances Sewell; and his siblings, Beatrice Moyer, Ida Bryant, Beulah Reynolds, Albertina “Tiny” Fuller, Ernest Sewell, Mary Niznak, and Betty Wagonschutz.
