Article in Fife Lake Booster, March 17, 1914: "Dies on Ice of Fife Lake. While fishing on Fife Lake Last Saturday Morning, Louis Ely collapsed from the over exertion of walking and cutting a hole through the ice and died within a few minutes. Mr. Ely's son was with him at the time and summoned aid from Fife Lake as soon as possible. Dr Walters and a number of citizens responded to the call promptly and the body was removed to Mr. Ely's home. Mr Ely has resided near Fife Lake for about twelve years and was highly respected. His sudden death is a great shock to our community."
