Emery J. Smith, age 78, former resident of Walton Junction, died early Thu morning in the Pontiac General Hospital following a brief illness.

Emery Smith was born Mar 13, 1870 near Coldwater and moved to Walton Junction at the age of nine years. IN 1889 he was united in marriage to Nora Williams of Wlaton Junction to this union were born 14 children, eight daughters and four sons, two daughters having preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith was an ordained minister in the Church of Christ for 27 years.

Surviving beside his widow, Nora of Pontac, are eight daughters, Harriet Kimball of Pontiac, Nellie Aldridge and Mildred Newmarch of Kingsley, Dorothy Dontje and Jane Loper of Manton, Pearl Vernier, Dahlia Smith and Winifred Smith of Pontiac; four sons, Emery and Edward of Walton Junction, and Roy and Robert of Pontiac; one sister, Alice Everling of Pontiac, Solomon T. Smith of Walton Junction, James Smith of Pontiac and Hiram Smith of Manton R.F.D., 38 grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Sun at 2:30 pm from the Church of Christ in Manton. The Rev. John Erskine of Evert will officiate and burial will be made in the Walton Junction Cemetery.
