Mrs. Dorothy L. Darke, 79, passed away Mon evening, Jun 23, 2003, at a nursing home in North Muskegon. 

She was born Mar 10, 1924, in Kalkaska to Arthur and Bertha (Ames) Hansen. She married Stephen L Darke in Kalkaska on Sep 6, 1945, and they moved to Muskegon in 1946.

Stephen preceded Dorothy in death on May 21, 1969.

In 1941, Dorothy was the National Trout Festival queen. She was a member of Wolf Lake United Methodist Church, Rebekah's IOOF and the Michigan Education Association. She taught for Oakridge School District in Muskegon until her retirement in 1991. 

Surviving are her son, Stephen (Gayle) Darke of Muskegon; daughters, Lynn Darke of Westerville, OH, and Wendy (Tom) Bowen of Grant; brother, Winfield (Iris) Hansen of Kalkaska; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, and brothers, John and Alfred. 

The funeral service was held Thu, Jun 26, 2003, at the Lee Funeral Home in Muskegon Heights. Interment was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska on Fri, Jun 27. 

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Disease Foundation. 

Arrangements were made by Lee Funeral Home of Muskegon Heights.
