Daniel Thorburn, 75, of R. 2, Kingsley, died Monday afternoon at Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility following a lingering illness.
Mr. Thorburn was born may 24, 1896 in Ayeshire, Scotland, and came to Clinton, Indiana with his father in 1912. On November 22, 1915, he was united in marriage to Ruby Mathes and they moved to Grand Traverse County in 1930. Mr. Thorburn worked for Ford Motor Company and ABC Freight Forwarding of Detroit and retired from this company in 1963.
Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Frederick of Kirkland, Wash., and Daniel of Taylor, Michigan; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Ely of Kingsley, Mrs. Roy (Mary) Kroning of Dearborn Heights, Mrs. Chauncy (Betty Jean) Ingersoll of Fife Lake, and Mrs. Ivan (Sara) Burgess of Comstock Park; 27 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ortie (Euphemia) Kispert of Clinton, Indiana and Mrs. Daniel (Margaret) Carpenter of California; two brothers, Alfred of Los Angeles; and Joseph of Kingsley. One daughter, Dorothy, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smith funeral home in Kingsley with the Rev. Eddie Bratton of the Kalkaska Church of Christ officiating with burial in Springfield Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
