Mrs. Alice Mae Helsel Doherty, 82, of Kalkaska died Friday, Sept. 29, 1989, at Munson Medical Center.
Mrs. Doherty had been a resident of Kalkaska since 1963, having moved here from Mt. Clemens. Prior to residing in Mt. Clemens, she lived in Sault St. Marie for 18 years. She was a member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church; the Land O'Lakes V.F.W. Auxiliary; and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting.
She was born in Jennings on Sept. 6, 1907, to Fred H. and Nancy M. (Kelly) Helsel. On Aug. 28, 1926 in Detroit she was united in marriage with John J. Doherty. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1963.
Surviving are two sons, Jack J. and wife, Dorothy of Kalkaska and R. Paul and wife Joan of Dowagiac; two half brothers, Jack Helsel of Fife Lake and Francis Helsel of Baldwin; two half sisters, Luwana Ingersoll of Fife Lake and Mrs. Richard (Bertha) Baker of Muskegon; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Fred Arthur and J. Franklin Helsel; one sister, Violet Blaisdell; and two half brothers, William and Ray Helsel.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 2, 1989, at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church. Rev. Dick Riley officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska.
