Thomas (Tom) Rechtin, age 75, of La Porte, TX, passed away Nov 1, 2023. He was born in Ludington, MI on Mar 14, 1948 to Harry and Louise Rechtin. He was married to Shielda Rechtin for 47 years. Tom served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. During his service he spent the majority of time in Germany. After serving in the Army, Tom worked with Dow Chemical in Michigan and he transferred to Texas in the 1970’s. Tom Rechtin wore many hats in the chemical cleaning industry until his retirement in 2016.

Tom loved spending time in the yard, gardening, taking care of his pool, playing computer games, reading a book big sports enthusiast and most of all spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. Tom had a love for travel, road trips and visiting historical markers. Tom also loved trips to Vegas with family and friends.

Tom was known for having never met a stranger. Tom could strike up a conversation with any person in passing and leave a smile on their face. The many conversations had with family, friends and random strangers will not be forgotten by all. Tom shared his contagious laugh and smile with all those around him.

His greatest passion was his love for his grandchildren who called him “Papa.” The grandchildren kept him busy with various school activities, soccer, summer activities, trips to McDonald’s and pool time. Papa could often be found snuggled up on the couch with his grandchildren cuddling and reading, watching movies or just talking about life. Pap loved his grandchildren and grand “fur” babies.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Louise Rechtin.

He is survived by his wife Shielda Rechtin, daughter Krissy Wood, grandchildren Elizabeth and J.T. Wood, grand fur baby Macy.

He is survived by brothers Gary (children Eric and Taylor Rechtin) and Greg Rechtin (children Carter and Connor Rechtin). He is survived by step children Deborah Inman (Kagan and Cory Inman), Brenda Moody and Rogers Moody (children Hunter and Taylor Moody).

No services will be held for Tom. Tom’s wish was to go “have a drink for me at La Brisa”.
