Ralph W. Byers, 88, a resident of Kalkaska since 1962, died Wednesday, February 21, 1990, at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Byers moved to Kalkaska from Hammond, IN, where he had been a teacher at Irving Junior High School for 37 years prior to his retirement. He was a charter member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church.
Mr. Byers was born in Brazil, IN on Oct 1, 1901, to Josiah and Sophia Prech Byers. On July 5, 1925, in Indianapolis, IN, he was married to Hilda Sparks, who preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 1979. He was married on March 22, 1982, in Kalkaska to Audrey Wang who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert W. Byers of Royal Oak; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Byers of St. Louis, MO three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 23, 1990, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Dick Riley, pastor of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, officiated.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb 25, at Riverview Cemetery in Monticello, Ind.
