Dorsey, Ralph

In Memory of
Ralph Dorsey

BIRTH: 28 Jul 1870 Empire, Leelanau, Michigan

DEATH: 18 Mar 1937 Frankfort, Benzie, Michigan

Last Sunday, Ralph Dorsey the son of John and Elizabeth Dorsey of the Narrows, from one of the oldest and best known pioneer families of the region, was laid quietly to rest in the Wagner cemetery. Probably no one ever loved Glen Lake more than Ralph, or got more enjoyment from its waters than he. He was a great sailor and a great fisherman. We believe he was the first person to own a pleasure launch on the lake and we remember well a crowd of the village young people on this launch, on a beautiful moonlight night, and a trip around the lake through the outlet into Fisher Lake, with the good engineer, Ralph at the wheel. We have taken many trips in many different places since then, but none we remember with more pleasure than that moonlight ride with the jolly crowd on pleasure bent. We have a picture hanigng on our wall of that old launch riding at anchor on the blue waters of the lake. The only ice boat ride we ever had was when Ralph took a crowd of the village youngsters on a breath taking ride from one end of the lake to the other. He was a great fisherman and we have seen many o lake trout that he had caught in Glen Lake waters. Ralph was a fine man, the son of fine people and it is very fitting that he should sleep the last sleep so close to the lake that belonged to him so much in life and closed in and sheltered by the kindly, beautiful hills that knew him when he was a little boy.
