Leona Elizabeth Gibbons, age 83, of Columbiaville, passed away peacefully on Jan 7, 2022. She was born in Royal Oak, MI on Jan 26, 1938, to Walter & Goldie King. Leona married Robert Gibbons in 1956, and they were together until his death in 2018. Together they raised their children, Stanley, Glenn, Fred (Betty), (the late) Vicky Scramlin, and Deborah (Scott) Wyman. Their grandchildren were Melissa Scramlin, Jake Scramlin, Marshall Scramlin, Barbara Gibbons, and Justin Gibbons; great grandchildren, Madelyn, Allison, Ethan, Joey, and Madison.
Leona was a certified nurse and worked at the hospital for 29 years while also being a member of the Lapeer Area Ambulance. She enjoyed water activities, camping, raccoon hunting, motorcycles, dirt track car racing, puzzles, slot machines, and knitting. She loved a good 4th of July gathering and Christmases spent with family.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A private memorial service will be held in the Summer of 2022. A special “Thank You” from Leona’s family to everyone at Suncrest for their extra special care. Memorial donations may be made to Suncrest Auxiliary.
