Leon K. Johnston, 77, of Grayling, passed away in Mercy Hospital Aug 19, 1998. He was born Feb 28, 1921 in Flint, MI, the son of Norman and Laura (Moon) Johnston. He was married to Betty J Brown in 1945. He came to Grayling at age 4 and graduated from Grayling High School. He served in the US Army during WWII as a Sergeant. In 1950 he went to Waterford where he was office manager of Price Brothers and returned to Grayling eight years ago. He was a member of Cedar Lodge #60, Clarkston 32 F&AM Campbell Richmond American Legion Post #63, Clarkston, life member and past commander for three years, life member VFW Post 1008, Waterford Moslem Temple, Detroit ancient accepted Scottish Rite, Detroit Fraternal Order Eagles, Clarkston North Oakland Shrine Club President of Wellington Farm Folk, Grayling. He is survived by three daughters, Karen (Bryan) Hanley, Ortonville, Sandra (Dan) O’Dea, Clarkston, and Jacqueline Johnston, Waterford longtime companion Marie Edwards, Grayling; brother, Keith Johnston, Whitmore Lake; sister, Norma Judd, Rockville, IN; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty J (Brown) Johnston in 1986; and brothers George and Chester. Masonic services were held Aug 21 under the auspices of the American Legion Post 106, Grayling and members of the Michigan National Guard. Funeral services were held Aug 22, 1998, at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel with Rev. Jeffrey L Jaggers officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
