Joseph E. Revell, 75, of Pensacola, FL and formerly of Hagerstown, MD died September 1, 2008 at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, FL.

He was born Jul 14, 1933 in Hagerstown, MD and was the son of the late Carlton C. Revell and Irene Johnson Revell.

He was a 1950 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1969 graduate of University of Maryland. Major Revell was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Vietnam, doing two tours with the 1st Marine Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star in Okinawa in 1966.

After retirement from the Marine Corps in 1972, he worked as a writer/photographer for the Navy Times. He was the Director of Tourism for Washington County, MD, and later worked as a Realtor/ Broker in Hagerstown and also in the Raleigh-Durham area of NC.

Major Revell was a Christian, spending a great deal of his life after retiring doing mission work.

He was preceded in death by one son, US Navy Chief Phillip Nathan Revell; one sister, Ruth Loretta Revell; and three brothers, Benjamin Revell, David Revell, and William Revell.

Survivors include: two daughters, Theresa Schmidt (Frank) of Gainsville, GA, and Kathryn Fowler (David) of Mystic, CT; three sons, John Revell (Maria) of Friendswood, TX, David Revell (Christine) and Michael Revell (Cheryl) of Clearwater, FL; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; his former wife, the mother of his children, Barbara R. Jones of Zephyrhills, FL; two sisters, Elizabeth Diggins of Hagerstown, MD, and Sara Frey of Falling Waters, WV; four brothers, Rev. James Revell of Lakeland, FL, Rev. Robert Revell of Falling Waters, WV, Alfred Van Revell of Marshfield, MO, and Daniel Revell of Berkeley Springs, WV.

Funeral services will be at Arlington National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice.
