Gerald J. Wheeler, 71, of Fife Lake, died Wednesday at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Wheeler served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an active member and past commander of the Fife Lake American Legion Post.
Retiring from the village of Fife Lake, after 30 years of service, he also served as village deputy.
Born Jan. 1, 1925, in Fife Lake, he was the son of Albert and Eva (Cunningham) Wheeler. On Sept 4, 1948, in Fife Lake, he married the former Edna D. Tomes, who survives in Fife Lake.
Also surviving are two sisters, Lorene Kuzma of Grand Rapids, and Nancy Hulbert of Fife Lake; three brothers, Fay Wheeler, Kenneth Wheeler, and Dale Wheeler all of Fife Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley, with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Traverse Area Hospice or the Fife Lake Rescue Squad.
