Mrs. Bertha I. Nave, 88, of Kalkaska, died Monday, Oct. 30, 1989, at Mercy Manor in Grayling.
Mrs. Nave moved to Kalkaska from Belding in 1927. She and her husband Owned and operated Nave's Bakery and Restaurant in Kalkaska until 1944. She was a member of the Excelsior Church of Christ and the W.C.T.U., and a former member of the Farm Bureau, and the Rebekah and Eastern Star Lodges.
Mrs. Nave was born in Montcalm County on Sept. 30, 1901, to Reuben and Rose Kniffen Fries. On March 5, 1921, in Stanton, she was married to Hugh Nave who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Roy Nave of Lansing, and Charles Nave of Brownfield, TX; tow daughters, Irene Sieting of Alma, and Katherine Nave of Grayling; two sisters, Mariette Mueller of Ionia and Mae Fries of Cadillac; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Hugh Nave Jr., one daughter Charlene Rice; one grandson, Roy Nave, and one great-granddaughter Adriane Sieting.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 2, 1989 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Michael Steere, pastor of the Spencer Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Excelsior Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
