Agnes "Aggie" E. Tomes, 89, of Kalkaska, formerly of Fife Lake, died Monday.
Born Feb. 14, 1911, in Grosse Pointe, she was the daughter of James and Emelie (LaBeau) Courture. On Feb. 20, 1926, in Detroit, she married Thomas Edward Tomes, who preceded her in death in 1981.
Agnes sewed for the Packard Motor Company in Detroit for ten years. She was later employed at Bob Leland Manufacturing in Detroit for 10 years. She moved from Detroit to Fife Lake in 1968 and then to Kalkaska two years ago.
She is survived by two daughters, Edna Wheeler and Lillian (Jerry) Birgy - both of Fife Lake; a son, John (Freda) Tomes of Inverness, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 20, at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jim Webb will officiate. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery, Springfield Township, Kalkaska County.
