Zara R. Hunter, Jr., 55, of Kalkaska, died Wednesday, Nov 14, 1990, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. 

Mr. Hunter was formerly employed by the C & O Railroad, and lived in Taylor prior to moving to Kalkaska in 1968. He owned and operated the Northland Restaurant in Kalkaska until 1983. He attended Olivet College, and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club. He was an active member of the New Life Assembly, and participated in the music ministry. 

Mr. Hunter was born in Charleston, W. Va. on June 25, 1935 to Zara R. and Clara (Hutchinson) Hunter, Sr. On May 18, 1962, in Detroit, he was married to Ursula Ritthalter who survives. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary and Zara, III both of Kalkaska, and Raymond of Wyoming; two daughters, Desiree Gluske of Detroit and Mary Hunter at home; his mother, Clara Hunter of Southgate; one brother, James Hunter of Lincoln Park; and five grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by one brother. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov 17, 1990, at the New Life Assembly. Rev. Scott Rhoades officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
