Woodrow C. Rowell, 82, a lifelong resident of Kalkaska, died Dec 20, 2000, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. 

Woody was born in Evart Apr 17, 1918, to Lyman and Teresa Easlick Rowell. He married Beatrice Ball in Kalkaska Aug 24, 1940. She died Mar 1, 1969. On Jan 7, 1971, in Kalkaska, he married Thirza Conway, who preceded him in death Oct 13, 1995. 

Prior to his retirement, Woody served as Kalkaska Postmaster for many years. He was a veteran of WWII and a life member and past commander of Land O'Lakes VFW Post 8684. 

For 36 years, he was a member of the Kalkaska Fire Department and had served for 32 years as its chief. He was a member of The Peoples Church. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. 

Surviving are sons Dick Rowell, Bob (Gay) Rowell and Jim (Jenny) Rowell, all of Kalkaska; daughters Marian Lee (Verl) Shaw of Florida City, FL, Janet (Doug) Daniels of Fife Lake, Anne (Bill) Wagenschutz, and Julie (Ricky) Berthelot, both of Kalkaska; brother Jack Rowell of Muskegon; sister Dorothy Robinson of Mesick; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. 

Brothers Kenneth and Wilson Rowell; sisters Mildred, Carrie and Ethel, and grandson Douglas preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were Dec 23 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The Rev. Paul Karges officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. 

Military rites will be under the auspices of Land O'Lakes VFW Post 8684. 

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Dementia Unit.
