Wellington Snell, for nearly a half century, a resident of Speaker township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Clapsaddle, west of Peck, Tue evening Apr 15, aged 88 years and 19 days. Due to advanced years, Mr. Snell had been in poor health for some time.

Deceased was born in Norwich, Oxford County, Ontario Mar 27, 1842, where he grew to manhood and was married Jul 29, 1861, to Miss Sarah Woodard. In 1867 they came to this country and settled in Monroe county, WI, and this was their home until 1882, when they came to MI and settled on a farm in Speaker Township.

He is survived by the widow, now 86 years of age; also by five daughters, as follow: Mrs. John Garton, Port Huron; Mrs. Clapsaddle; Mrs. Fred Woodruff, Brown City; Mrs. Russell Felker, Sandusky; Mrs. Frank Sischo, Romeo. A pioneer settler of this county, Mr. Snell did well his part in its development and was always a good citizen and a kind friend. His departure leaves many sorrowing friends. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. His death is the first in the entire history of his family.

Funeral services were held Fri from the Speaker M.E. Church, Rev. R.S. Griswold, of Peck, officiating. Burial was in Speaker cemetery.
