Wayne William Horton, of Kalkaska, passed away Oct 30, 2011 at his Excelsior Township home, where he was surrounded by his loving family.
The son of Floyd W. and Iva H (Harder) Horton, he was born May 21, 1925 in Caseville, where he was raised. Wayne married Geraldine Lois Morningstar, daughter of Chester and Lucy O (Duncan) Morningstar on Jan 20, 1945 in Flint. Wayne graduated from Coyne Trade School (college) at Chicago, IL and became a licensed electrician. He started his own electrical contractor business, Wayne's Electric, and ran this business for 35 years in Utica, Onaway, and Kalkaska, all in Michigan. He was a member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 498 for ten years, and was also the Electrical Inspector for Kalkaska County for nine years. He was an active member and Elder of the Community of Christ Church (RLDS). Wayne loved all his family, church family, neighbors, friends, and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, boxing and bull riding.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Geraldine of 66 years of marriage; their two sons, Dennis W. Horton and Daryl W. Horton (Sarah (Blech) Horton. Three grandchildren: (Dennis' children): Dusty M (Horton Seifert (John Seifert), Brad W. Horton (Lori {Lewis} Horton), Thad W. Horton (Kari {Breeden} Horton). Seven great grandchildren: (Dusty's children): Aliecia M Seifert, Matthew J. Seifert, (Brad's children): Andrew L Horton, Caden W. Horton, (Thad's children): Gwendolyn J. Horton, Davyn W. Horton and Liam (William) W. Horton, and another child on the way; his brother, Mervyn G. (Marian) Horton of Onaway; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Iva Horton.
Visitation will be held Wed, Nov 2, 2011 from 2 to 8 pm at Kalkaska Funeral Home. A funeral service for Wayne will be held on Thu, Nov 3, 2011 at 2 pm at Kalkaska Funeral Home. Wayne will be buried in the Excelsior Township Cemetery and dinner will follow at LaLone's Restaurant.
