Reverend Walter W. Derylo, 64, of Rapid City and formerly of Gaylord, passed away on Aug 17, 2007, in Kalkaska. Born on Mar 10, 1943, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of the late Walter F and Irene (Burns) Derylo.
Father Walter was a member of the Arch Diocese of Gaylord and was ordained in Rome in 1968. He has served parishioners in many places including Alpena, Manistee, Grand Rapids, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and the Grand Traverse area. Father Walter was very active in the Boy Scouts, enjoyed the outdoors, camping, backpacking. He has traveled all over the world. He was a wonderful brother, son, and friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Surviving Walter is his siblings, Mary (Bill) Geer, of Gurnee, IL, Ken (Denise) Derylo of Grand Rapids, and Valerie (Rick) Gravelyn of Grand Rapids; nieces and nephews, Rose Greenland, Erin Sykes, Captain Ryan Geer, Jillian Geer, Jacob Derylo, Sarah Derylo, Erika Derylo, Jaimie Derylo, Christopher Gravelyn, Angela Gravelyn, Laura Gravelyn, and Melissa Gravelyn; Uncle Joseph (Doris) Stasiak of Grand Rapids.
Visitation was Mon, Aug 20 at the Cathedral Catholic Church in Gaylord. On Tue visitation was held at Arsulowicz Funeral Home in Walker.
Wed visitation will be from 2 until 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grand Rapids with a scripture service at 8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thu, at 11 am at the church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
