Viola M Ruby, passed away, Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at her home with her loving family present. She was born Sep 26, 1923 in Chandler Township the daughter of the late Ray and Mary (Harrison) Ayotte.
Viola was a longtime resident of Kalkaska County, moving here to farm from Bay Port in 1957 with her husband Elgain Ruby. Together they raised their children on the farm where she had a large garden and canned the produce in large quantities. As a farm cook, Viola was known for the baked beans recipe which she took to every event. Always active, she worked as a custodian for the Kalkaska Public Schools until she retired. She was known to her family as a person willing to help others and she enjoyed volunteering to help distribute food at a local food distributing center in Kalkaska.
Viola is survived by her children, Leo Ruby, Kenneth (Yvonne) Ruby all of Kalkaska; her grandchildren, Angie (Barney) Douglas, Holly (Matt Green) Paweletz, Brandy (Josh) Newburry; her great grandchildren, Chellee, Natasha, Felisha, Sonny, Austin, and Morgan; and her sisters, Dorothy Reinig of Freeland and Shirley Martin of AuGres.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Elgain; her borthers, Joseph Ayotte, Lawrence Ayotte, Louis Ayotte, Raymond Ayotte; her sisters, Helen Boxey, Marlene Keane and Lucille Stirrett.
Visitation will be Tue, Sep 28 from 6 to 8 pm at the Wolfe O'Neill Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wed at 1 pm at the funeral home with Reverend Norman Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
