Mrs. Varah A. Curtis, 92, of Plainwell, formerly of Kalkaska, died Wednesday, February 28, 1990, at Pipp Community Hospital in Plainwell. 

Mrs. Curtis lived in Kalkaska County from 1925, until one year ago when she moved to Plainwell to make her home with her daughter. She was a graduate of Ypsilanti state Teachers College, and taught in several rural Kalkaska County schools. She was a member of the Peoples Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, and crossword puzzles. 

Mrs. Curtis was born in Howell on October 12, 1897, to Albert and Frances Stedman Latson. She was married on April 2, 1925, in Howell to Archie Curtis who preceded her in death on November 28, 1966. 

Surviving are one son, Edward Curtis of Mansfield, OH; three daughters, Mrs. Clayson (Agnes) Franks of Drasco, AR, Mrs. Richard (Elaine)  Wierenga of Kentwood, and Mrs. Ted (Evelyn) Campbell of Plainwell; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, three sons, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 2, 1990, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges, pastor of the Peoples church, officiated. Burial was in Garfield Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
