Suesan Ann Casino-Meehan of Dafter, surrounded by her family, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jun 15, 2013. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on Nov 1, 1952, the daughter of John and Ruby Casino. Growing up on the family farm in Dafter, Suesan graduated from Rudyard High School and received a bachelor of nursing degree from Northern Michigan University. Suesan married Patrick J. Meehan on May 29, 1982 at St. Joseph Church in Rudyard. They lived in Cottage Park and raised three children together. Suesan had a long career in nursing. She worked at the University of Michigan in the oncology department, the Northern Michigan Hospital neonatal intensive care unit, and the Chippewa County Health Department in both the Department of Home and Public Health. Active in her community, Suesan was a dynamic member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rudyard, serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and catechism teacher. She was involved in the women’s group and provided decorations for many church and school events. Suesan was advisor to all of her children’s classes at Rudyard High school, organizing many fundraisers and events. Suesan was diagnosed with breast cancer in Aug 2000. She fought a heroic battle, giving hope and support to many in her community. Suesan touched many lives through her involvement in Relay for Life and her breast cancer awareness group. She was very generous with her time and talents. She was never too busy for anyone who needed her. A positive role model for both her family and the community, Suesan exemplified patience, kindness, understanding, love, forgiveness, and strength. She believed in the gift of life and making memories daily. Suesan loved reading, dancing, visiting friends and family, playing with her granddaughter, and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Patrick; sons, John Patrick of Gaylord, Joseph Michael (Melissa) of Dafter; daughter, Maria Elizabeth of Dafter; and granddaughters, Kylee Suesan and Ally Elaine. She is also survived by her sisters, Janice (Robert) Kerley of Pawnee, IL, Mary (Rick) Walker of Dafter, Kathy (Daniel) Quenneville of Dayton, OH, and Laurie (Thomas) Clink of Holly; and her borthers in law, Dan (Barb deceased) Meehan of Rudyard, Steve (Mary Jo) Meehand of Dafter, Tom (Patty) Meehan of Kinross and sisters in law, Kathlene (David) Windmueller of McMurry, PA, Christine (Rick) McDowell of Kinross, Barbara (John) Linck of Brown City; and many nieces and nephews.

Suesan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby (Cryderman) Casino, her brother, Joseph, and her grandparents, Joseph and Isabel Cryderman and George and Mary Casino, her in laws, John B. and Charlene Meehan, and brother in law Michael Allen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rudyard, MI on Fri, Jun 21 at 3pm with Father Joseph Vandannoor as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Kinross Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of Chippewa County. Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
