In Memory of
Rollin George Shetler

BIRTH: 11 Nov 1930 Flannigan, Hamilton, Illinois

DEATH: 11 Nov 2006 Kalkaska, Kalkaska, Michigan

Rollin George Shetler, age 76 of Kalkaska, passed away November 11, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.

Rollin was born in Flannigan, Illinois on November 11, 1930 to George and Maude (Miller) Shetler. Rollin entered into marriage with the former Sarah Prinkey on July 10, 1950 in Pennsylvania.

Rollin worked in various jobs until he settled into driving the school bus for many years. He truly enjoyed his work as a bus driver and all of the many children he served. In early years Rollin liked playing basketball for his high school as well as with his friends. But Rollin never grew out of his love for singing and story telling. Rollin always participated with church choirs and cantatas singing traditional hymns. Neighbors could often even hear Rollin singing as he worked away in the barn.

Rollin was an avid Tiger fan and could be found tending to his vegetables or working hard at the many chores he wanted to accomplish. After retirement Rollin stayed busy helping to bottle milk with his family or reading a good book. In recent days Rollin so dearly missed being able to socialize with the many dear friends he had made in the community. Rollin was a past member of the Peoples Church in Kalkaska; associate member of Maple River Mennonite Church in Brutus and most recently attended the Kalkaska Church of the Nazarene. Rollin was strong in his faith and will deeply missed by a family that cherished him.

Rollin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah; son, George (Sally) Shelter; two daughters, Bernice Gerber, Ruth (Claude) Green all of Kalkaska; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; many nieces, nephews, cousins and several other loving family members and friends.

Rollin was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Rebecca Shetler, a brother, Maynard Shetler and grandchildren, Jonathon Shetler and Louisa DePeel.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Church of the Nazarene in Kalkaska, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Batterbee and Reverend Clawson will officiate. Burial will take place at Excelcior Township Cemetery.

The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
