Richard D. Shafer, 60, of Mancelona, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov 21, 1989, at his residence.
Mr. Shafer moved to Kalkaska County in 1980, from Warsaw, IN. He had been employed by Dalton Foundry in Warsaw for 33 years, and was later employed by Robinson Construction. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing.
Mr. Shafer was born in Warsaw, IN on Aug. 27, 1929, to Francis and Sylvia Haws Shafer. On Sept 11, 1948, in Columbia City, Ind. he was married to Margaret Jane Ross who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles of Kalkaska, William of South Boardman, and Tony of Kalkaska; his mother, Sylvia Shafer of Warsaw, Ind; three brothers, Robert of Warsaw, Jack of Bremen, IN, and Junior or Mentone, IN; two sisters, Gladys Armey of South Bend, IN, and Doris Palmer of Warsaw, IN; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 24, 1989, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. E. Dan Johnson, pastor of the Kalkaska Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
