Raymond J. Popa, 61, of Kalkaska, died Tuesday night, Sept. 19, 1989, at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Popa moved to Kalkaska six years ago from Farmington Hills, following his retirement from Eclipse Tool and Die Company in Ferndale. He was a member of St. Fabian Catholic Church in Farmington Hills and the Clawson-Troy Elks Lodge No. 2169. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, square dancing, and bowling.
Mr. Popa was born in Solon Township on August 27, 1928, to Paul and Anna Flees Popa. He was married on May 31, 1980 in Farmington Hills to Julia Megyesi Darian who survives.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Dale Popa of Brighton, and Roger Popa and Kevin Darian both of Calif.; four daughters, Marie Anderson of Minnesota, Denise Shimokochi of Canton, Linda Darian of Ann Arbor, and Amy Darian of Ypsilanti; two brothers, Felix Popa of Mancelona, and Chester Popa of Traverse City; three sisters, Joanne Rosinski of Cedar, Henrietta Gorski of Calif, and Rosabelle Poertner of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; and several sons and daughters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
One daughter, Cindy Lee, one sister, Esther O'Hara, and four brothers, Basil, Phillip, Xavier, and William preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept 23, 1989, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City. Fr. Dennis Stillwell officiated. Burial was in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
The Rosary was recited at the funeral home on Friday evening.
