Rachel Ellen Meadows of Mancelona and Kalkaska was received into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Jun 16, 2009, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. Rachel was born Jun 2, 1923, in Greenup, KY, to George and Effie Imel. She was one of 11 children. 

Rachel married her true love, Leonard S Meadows on Dec 18, 1940 in Alden. 

As a homemaker, caring for her family was her priority. She loved cooking, baking, picking berries, canning, and gardening. 

Later in life, Rachel enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and traveling to Florida during the winter. 

Rachel chose to continue her education at Kalkaska High School at the age of 60, receiving her diploma in 1983. Her favorite subject was English. She wrote short stories for the school newspaper and enjoyed poetry. 

Rachel had a kind and generous spirit, making friends throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed her work at Shanty Creek Lodge and Schuss Mountain. She was also a volunteer for the Jerry Lewis Telethon and gave to the St Joseph's Children's Hospital and the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars USA faithfully for many years.

Rachel was a member of the Antrim Church of Christ. 

Rachel is survived by her for loving children: Della (John T.) Bryan of Traverse City, Caroline Sue (Rodney) Aldrich of Clam Lake in Bellaire, Phil (JoEl) Meadows of Traverse City, and Al (Diane) Meadows of Traverse City; eight grandchildren, Tami (Jeff) Cleland, Kelly (Dan) Carroll, Brad Aldrich, Holly Aldrich, Janee' Meadows, Kalee Meadows, Tara Meadows, and Kyle (Kelly) Meadows; eight great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Aric, Alex, Abby, Alyssa, Adam, and Allison Cleland, and Jack Caroll; four sisters, Florida Gay of Grand Rapids, Betty (Pete) Webster of Mancelona, Roberta (Jack) Olds of Richardton, ND, and Lois Garcia of Traverse City; special friends, Rick, Cheryl, Rich, and Ryan Shanahan, and many nieces and nephews. 

Preceding her in death was her loving husband, Leonard; her parents, George and Effie Imel; her two children; six siblings, and special friends, Adolph Stradinger and Richard Shanahan, as well as her close personal friend, Thelma Root. 

Memorial services will be held Sat, Jun 27 at 11 am at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona, with the Rev. Mark McCool officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.
