Peter Niemershien Jr, 78, of Kalkaska, departed this life Fri, Sep 15, 2000, at his residence. 

Peter spent most of his life in Grand Blanc, and was a 1940 graduate of Grand Blanc High School. He then attended Flint Junior College before entering the Navy to serve in WWII. 

Following the war, he was employed as a chemist at DuPont for 27 years until his retirement in 1977, when he moved to Kalkaska. 

A former Grand Blanc City Councilman, Peter was a past commander of American Legion Post 413 in Grand Blanc. He was also a member of Lodge 23 F. and AM, the Scottish Rite, Shriners, Land O' Lakes VFW Post 8684, Kalkaska Moose Lodge 2348, and the Kalkaska American Legion. He enjoyed his retirement at Manistee Lake and calling bingo. 

Peter was born in Detroit on Mar 25, 1922, son of the late Peter and Margaret Schmidt Niemershien. He married Joyce Markajevich in Las Vegas on Mar 17, 1976. 

Surviving are Joyce, his loving wife of 24 years; son Peter (Dawn) Niemershien of Columbus, OH; daughters Vicki Hunt of Oscoda, Sharon Wohlahueter of West Palm Beach, FL, and Mary (Gerald) Knopf of Grand Blanc; stepdaughter Patricia Leslie of Rochester; grandsons, tony and Lyle Knopf of Grand Blanc; special brother in law Charles (Dorothy) Karnes of Goodrich; nephew Michael Karnes; and cousin Elsie Eberhardt of Detroit. 

The family extends special thanks to good friends Vern and Bev McManaman, Gene and Doris McLean, Mike and Maridean McManaman, Herb and Jane Luck, and Munson Hospice for their friendship, care, and concern. 

Brothers John and Arthur preceded him in death. 

Memorial services were Sep 18, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska under the auspices of Land O' Lakes VFW Post 8684.
