Flags were flying at half-mast in Croswell Mon in honor of SP5 Oscar Gutierrez who was killed by a land mine in Vietnam on Mar 11.
SP Gutierrez was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matias Gutierrez of 233 Mills St., Croswell and the first Croswell soldier to be killed in Vietnam.
Gutierrez was graduated by Cros-Lex High School in 1965 and entered the US Army on Sep 15, 1966.
The twenty year old soldier received minor wounds in Dec and was hospitalized about a week at that time.
Military funeral services were held in St Patrick Church, Croswell, Mon, Mar 25 at 10 am, Fr. O'Reilly and Fr. Ratajczak officiated. Burial was in Croswell Cemetery.
