Mrs. Elgie Coon was notified by telegram from the War Department Sat afternoon that her son, Pvt. Neil J Coon, 25, had been killed i n action in France Aug 18.
Private Coon is survived by his mother, father, Earl Coon, a brother, Cecil Coon, and a sister, Mrs. Sylvan Crorey, all of Croswell.
He was born in Croswell Jul 13, 1919. He was a graduate of the local high school and was an outstanding athlete.
He enlisted in the Army on Jan 27, 1943, and had basic training at San Louis Obispo, CA, Camp Ruckner in AL, and Camp Forest, TN. He went to England with the infantry in April of this year. He crossed the channel to France a week after D-Day.
