Mildred M. Harris, 88, of Mancelona died Mon, Sep 30, 1996, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A memorial service will be held on Sat, Oct 5, at 2 pm at the Mancelona Free Methodist Church. Pastor Gerald Cook will officiate.
Mildred was born on Nov 8, 1907, in Oliver Township, Kalkaska County, the daughter of Ervin Delbert and Rosa Ellen (Miller) Schlemmer. On Apr 24, 1927, in Mancelona , she married Peter Elida Babcock. They had lived in Otsego and Kalkaska counties. He died on Apr 10, 1952. On Jan 28, 1961 in Montpelier, IN, Mildred married Kenneth Wayne Harris. They moved to Mancelona in 1988. He died On Mar 21, 1995.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, and visiting friends.
Mrs. Harris is survived by daughter Phyllis Gates of Traverse City; son Peter Junior (Helen) Babcock of St. Robert; MS; step daughters Ardelia Durr and Marcile Scott, both of Bluffton, IN; six grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren; six great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren; and two nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons and a daughter in infancy; sisters Mable Rader and Minnie Schlemmer; and brother Donald Schlemmer.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were handled by the Paullin-Penzien Funeral Home, Mancelona.
