Merritt H. Strange, 81, of Manton, died Wednesday Feb 28, 1990, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
A 38-year employee of the State of Michigan, he had worked at Traverse City sTate Hospital from 1931 to 1934 and for the state highway department from 1934 to 1969.
He lived many years in Kalkaska, where he had worked as undersheriff. He was a former volunteer for the Kalkaska Fire Department and was active in the Kalkaska Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Born in Cambria, IN, on Aug 9, 1908, he was the son of Burton and Minnie (Beisel) Strange. On Dec. 16, 1933, in Traverse City, he married the former Celia M. VanPelt who preceded him in death in 1984.
Surviving are a son, Dale J. Strange of Kingsley; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Bonny) Huston of Manton; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also survived by a special friend, Ella Eager of Manton.
Services were held Saturday, March 3, 1990, at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. The Rev. Louis Grettenberger officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kingsley.
