Meredith C. Raftery, 74, of 502 N. Spruce St., Traverse City, passed away December 15 at Munson Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Springfield Twp, Kalkaska County, Apr 3, 1899, to Bernie and Mary Raftery. He lived from 1913 to 1951 in Detroit where he was a tool and die maker for Ford Motor Co. for many years. He was also a representative for the Electrolux Corp. from 1932 until his retirement in 1969. An avid sportsman and fisherman, he moved to Traverse City in 1951. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. In 1919 he was married at Highland Park to the former Edna Clark, who passed away in 1961. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, one sister, and one grandson, Douglass McNabb, who died at the age of 20 in Vietnam in 1962. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Burton (Shirley) Bancroft of Columbia, CA, Mrs. Ralph (Clarice) McNabb of North Olmsted, OH, and Mrs. Jack (Mary Lou) Rockefellow of Detroit; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Ray Raftery of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wed at 11am at the Martinson Funeral Home in Traverse City. The Rev Wilson Tennant will officiate. Interment will be in Springfield Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
