Melvin V Maxwell, age 84, of Ithaca, MI passed away on Wed, Nov 26, 2014 at Ashley Care Center in Ashley, MI.

Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home, Ithaca, MI on Mon, Dec 1, 2014 at 11 am with Mr. Keith Wise officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI.

Visitation will be held on Sat, Nov 29, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm and Sun, Nov 30, 2014 from 2 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Melvin was born in Gratiot County, MI on Apr 27, 1930, the son of Vern and Tressa (Dailey) Maxwell. He was a lifelong resident of North Star Township and graduate of Ithaca High School with the class of 1948, where he was inducted into the State Hall of Fame. He was a veteran, serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While working at Motor Products Owosso Corporation (Redmonds) for 33 years, he served as a supervisor and plant manager. He enjoyed reading, playing horseshoes, and farming. Melvin was a member of the St. Louis Church of Christ, Farm Bureau, and VFW Ithaca Post. He married Beverly Shaw in 1951 until her death in 1981. On Jun 25, 1983, he married Virginia Langdon Harris. They were married over 31 years. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Maxwell of Ithaca, MI, son Gilbert Maxwell of Ithaca, MI, daughter, Kimberly Weber of Ithaca, MI, 4 grandchildren; Jeremy Maxwell, Zachary and Jamie Maxwell, Jonathan and Connie Maxwell, and Tressa and Andrew Sosnowski, 6 great grandchildren, sister, Dorothy Hoffer of Alma, MI, brother in law Keith and Phyllis Shaw, sister in law Sandra Hull, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly, and an infant son, Douglas. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Church of Christ or Ithaca Senior Center.
