Mrs. Marion B. Stafford, 76, of Dayton, OH, died Saturday, Dec 9, 1989, at Heartland of Beaver Creek Nursing Home in Dayton.
Mrs. Stafford spent her early years in Michigan and was a graduate of the Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit. Following graduation, she served as a Red Cross nurse and participated in a special mission with the Harvard School of Medicine to establish a military hospital in Great Britain, Enroute to Great Britain, her ship was torpedoed by a German submarine, and she spent 12 days on a life raft in the North Atlantic Sea.
She later joined the U.S. Navy, and served as a Lt. J.G. during WW II. Following her discharge she worked as a nurse at the V.A. Medical Center in Dayton, OH and later joined the Dayton Public Schools as a school nurse until her retirement. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Dayton, and enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Stafford was born in Kalkaska County to William and Pearl Gardner Blissett on Oct. 30, 1913.
Surviving are one son, William Stafford of Haughton, LA; three brothers, Russell Blissett of Kalkaska, Paul Blissett of Mexico, and Louis Blissett of Dollar Bay; one sister, Edith Roland of Richmond; and two grandchildren.
One brother, Lovel Blissett, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 13 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Ted Turanski, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial will be in the spring at Helena Township Cemetery in Alden.
