Margaret "June" Behnke, 72, of Kalkaska, died Wednesday at her daughter's home in Battle Creek after a long illness.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska and a volunteer at the Kalkaska County Health Department. In 1975 she moved to Kalkaska from Kalamazoo.
A 1935 graduate of Dowagiac High School, she grew up in Dowagiac. She had been employed 17 years at Kellogg Cereal Co. in Battle Creek. She enjoyed golfing.
Born Sept. 2, 1917, in Cass County, she was the daughter of Leonard and Mabel (Brannock) Neff. On Sept 24, 1938, in Dowagiac, she married Anthony J. "Tony" Behnke, she survives.
She also is survived by one son, Thomas E. Behnke of Gaylord; one daughter, Margaret A. Campbell of Battle Creek, one brother, Howard Neff of Dowagiac; two sisters, Mildred Langley of Dowagiac and Virginia Banta of Virginia; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 North 23rd St., Battle Creek. The Rev. John Weis will officiated. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek.
Rosary was recited at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
