Lowell E. Babcock, 89, a life-long resident of Kalkaska, passed away on Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at Munson Medical Center. He was born on Mar 3, 1923 in Traverse City to the late Milo and Lucille (Clapp) Babcock. 

Lowell married the former Alice Phelps on Mar 8, 1947. He served his country proudly as a member of the US Navy during WWII for 5 years in the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. 

Lowell retired from the Kalkaska Road Commission after 37 years of dedicated service. He was always very active in volunteering and servicing his community. Lowell was a past Boy Scout Master for Troop 9 in Kalkaska. He was a Rapid River Township Supervisor, Lowell also formerly served on the Kalkaska Hospital Board. He currently was Chariman of the Kalkaska County Public Transit Board. He served as Elder at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Lowell was a member of the American Legion Post 480 of Kalkaska. In his spare time, Lowell enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. His dedication to his family, church, country, and community will be deeply missed by all. 

Lowell is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Alice; his loving children, Joyce (Tony) Candela of St Clair Shores, Susan Babcock of Traverse City, David (Terry) Babcock of Kalkaska, Mike (Kim) Babcock of Kalkaska, Debbie (Joe) Rogers of Williamsburg, and Diane (Kurt) Schuler of Williamsburg; his 20 cherished grandchildren; his 28 precious great-grandchildren; and his dear sister, Barbara Brothers of Kalkaska. 

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and two dear babies. 

Visitation for Lowell was held on Sat, Aug 4, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. Funeral services were on Sun at 4pm at the Kalkaska Church of Christ with Dan Johnson and Jeff Badgero officiating.
