Louisa J. Derwoyed left our world on April 2, 2017 to be reunited with her beloved husband, Joe; loving daughter, Connie; sisters, Marge and Elsie; brother, Thomas and her parents, Roy and Hulda Dorrell.
Louisa was born in April 27, 1918 in Lyons, OH. Later in life, she moved to Toledo, OH, where she met and married her husband Joe. Together they built a beautiful home and shared their love of fruit and vegetables gardening on a one-half acre lot next to their home. They spent endless hours tending to the crops, which ranged from several berry varieties to spinach, sweet corn and the most beautiful giant sunflowers you have ever seen. Louise worked outside of the home as a hostess at Bell Aire Supper Club and Hickory Farms until 1982, when she and Joe decided to make Greenwood, SC their forever home.
Louisa was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. She loved and nurtured many babies while volunteering in the church nursery. She had a way of calming the “fussy ones” while rocking and singing them lullabies. She became a surrogate grandma to many of these babies until they became young adults. Louisa always wanted to help and do for others, making their favorite goodies, delivering them with a twinkle in her eye, a beautiful smile upon her face and much love in her heart. She also found time to work with the Salvation Army for many years.
Louisa made Wesley Commons her home for the past ten years, where she served as president of the Residential Council, always participating in all church events. During the holidays, she performed with the ringing of the bells. She made everlasting friendships and was a loving, devoted friend to many near and far.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Wesley Commons Health Care Center with Dr. Kyle Hite officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 426, Greenwood, SC 29648.
