Rev. Lorimer W. Crippen, 86, of Kalkaska, Pastor Emeritus of The Peoples Church, died Monday, Nov. 6, 1989, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Rev. Crippen pastored churches in Meriden, Conn, Carthage and Corning NY and Quincy, MI prior to moving to Kalkaska in 1968. He served The Peoples Church until his retirement in 1975. Rev. Crippen was a 1922 graduate of Colgate University, and a 1928 graduate of Colgate-Rochester Divinity School. He was a member of the American Baptist Convention, the Masonic Lodge, and a former member of the Kalkaska Rotary Club. He enjoyed reading and furniture refinishing.
Rev. Crippen was born in Long Island City, NY, on March 22, 1903, to Willard and Georgie Rockefeller Crippen. On Oct 16, 1928, in Elmhurst, Long Island, he was married to Miriam Renois. She died on Feb. 7, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Gifford Crippen of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Mrs. William (Miriam) Chace of Southington, CT, and Mrs. John (Lillia) Leibig of Maumee, OH; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday, Nov 13, 1989, at the Peoples Church in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul M Karges officiated.
