Leslie E. Russell, Sr, 69, of Kalkaska, died Wed, Dec 20, 1995, at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Russell moved to Kalkaska in 1968, from Drayton Plains. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was principal of Birch Street Elementary School. He held a bachelors degree from Michigan State University and a Masters degree from Eastern Michigan University. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting, and fishing.
Mr. Russell was born in Detroit on May 1, 1926, to J. Elwood and Gladys Enright Russell. On Dec 9, 1950, in Washington D.C., he married Suzanne Armentrout, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Leslie E. Jr (Susan) of Ludington, Thomas D. (Kelly) of Ridgecrest, CA, and James R of Traverse City; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Tucker of Cadillac, and Susan Russell of Oakridge, TN; one sister, Beverly Ludwig of Romulus; and nine grandchildren.
One brother, J. Elwood Russell and one sister, Betty Gezequel, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kalkaska. Rev. Ted Turanski officiated. Cremation followed funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Birch Street Elementary School.
