Lawrence M (Tunk) Smith, 91, of Alden, died Fri, Mar 12, 1999, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
Mr. Smith had been a resident of Alden since 1946. He formerly worked for Buick Motor Car Co, and then was employed as a machinist by Cone Drive Gear Co prior to his retirement. He was a member of UAW Local 21. His hobbies included bowling, baseball, softball, and fishing.
Born in Custer on Nov 1, 1907, he was the son of Chris and Pearl Breece Smith. He married Emma Ruth Peterson in Alden on Sep 15, 1940.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; son Norman "Pete" (Betty) Smith of Traverse City; daughters Ruth Ann Smith of Alden and Mary (Don) Moore of Sears; brother L.V. (Mary) Smith of Mancelona; sisters Hazel Dickson, Lucille DeWitt and Viola (Thomas) Merkle, all of Alden; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
