Laverne D. Sewell age 91 of Greenville died Sunday at Quality Foster Care in Greenville. He was born in McBride MI on April 17, 1917 the son of Chester and Mary Jorgensen Sewell.  He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WW II and a member of the VFW Cleveland Wolverton Post # 3794 of Greenville.

He retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Co with 40 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing golf and horseshoes.

He was married to Lillie Mae Brigner on June 10, 1939 in Greenville and she preceded him in death on July 15, 1988. His sister Charlotte Petersen and son-in-law Michael Bucholtz also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Bucholtz of Lakeview, his sons Roger and Connie Sewell of Florida and Gary and Linda Sewell of Clarksville, his nine grandchildren; Shelley and Tom Heinze of St. Joseph, Sharyl and Gene Beckler of Anderson S.C., Stacy Bucholtz of Madison Heights, MI, Shawn and Tom Vanderhyde of Rockford, Stephanie and Jerry Garner of Gowen, Todd and Julie Sewell of Delton, Traci and Mark George of Traverse City, Kerrie and Jon Soncrant of Simpsonville S.C. and Jody Sewell of Clarksville, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, his brother in law Orn Brigner of Greenville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 12, 2008 at 1 PM from Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Johnson of the Greenville Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm.
