John C. McDonald, 81, of Kalkaska, passed away Sep 27 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. 

He was born May 18, 1928, in Redford Township to the late Harold J and Margaret (Bailey) McDonald.

John served his country in the US Navy as a cook during WWII. 

He retired in 1990 after working as a boilermaker and welder in the oil industry. 

John enjoyed country music, singing, woodworking, and playing with his dachshunds. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. 

John is survived by his loving children, Miki Ann (Keith) Hayes of Schweinfurt, Germany, John David McDonald of Kalkaska, Patrick Raymond (Diane) McDonald of Fife Lake, Harold Joseph McDonald of Traverse City, Micheal James McDonald of Kalkaska, William Edward (Gayla) McDonald of Cleveland, GA, and Gerald John (Victoria) McDonald of Lake City. Additionally, he is survived by his dear brother, Harold (Virginia) McDonald of Garden City; 12 cherished grandchildren; three precious great grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Elizabeth Carol McDonald. 

Visitation for John was held Tue, Sep 29, from 5 to 8 pm at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home.

The funeral was held Wed, at 11 am at the funeral home - with William E McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
